AUSTRALIA: Milk production in Australia during September was 4.5 percent below September last year, according to Dairy Australia. July – September milk production was 6.0 percent lower than the same period last year. More detailed production data for the first three months of the season are in the table which follows.

NEW ZEALAND:

September 2019 New Zealand milk production reported by DCANZ was 2,664 million MT, down 0.7 percent from September 2018 milk production, 2,682 million MT. September 2019 milk solids, 220,982 million kg, are up 0.7 percent from September 2018, 219,511 million kg. New Zealand seasonal milk production typically peaks in October.

October milk production data is eagerly awaited. That will help establish how full season milk production will compare with last season. With declining milk production in Australia, a strong showing in New Zealand will be needed to keep the region close to production volumes last year. Stronger prices this period for a number of dairy commodities is a reflection of uncertainty nearing official peak seasonal results, as to how the season will resolve.
