Butter/Butteroil – Europe at the beginning of July 2019

Report 27 – Released on July 03, 2019

Butter and butteroil prices in Western Europe are softer. Pricing for butter is typically highest in France and Germany, followed by Italy, then Netherlands. Butter demand is seasonally normal. Production is slightly down, following milk production now moving lower from the seasonal peak.

Butter demand for use in Western Europe is stable to slightly down, in line with expectations. The vacation season has begun and as more people are on vacation, demand will be lighter. This is a typical summer occurrence.

Some contracting for Q3 is still being worked on. There is a bit of disagreement between sellers and buyers as to pricing. Many retailers are covered and stocked for the immediate future, reducing the need for immediate transactions to lock in additional supplies.
