WESTERN OVERVIEW
Late year German milk production is showing increases. Early reporting in Germany for the last week in November noted higher milk production from the previous week, and the same week last year.European Union milk production during October was +0.4 percent YOY from October last year.Through October 2019 YTD milk production increased 0.5 percent, according to Eucolait. YTD through October, milk production compared with the same period last year was: Ireland, +6.9 percent; France, -0.5 percent; Netherlands, -1.4 percent; and Germany, -0.4 percent.Positive indicators for October 2019 YOY include: France, +1.3 percent; and Netherlands,+2.0 percent.European Union cheese production during October was +1.1 percent YOY from October last year.Through October 2019 YTD cheese production increased 0.6 percent, according to Eucolait. The election victory of the Tory party in the United Kingdom seems likely to cement Boris Johnson pledging to take the United Kingdom out of the European Union on January 31, 2020.This is expected to lead to a transitional period until the end of 2020, during which the UK will remain a member of the single market and customs union, while not a member of the EU. Still to be negotiated is what happens after the transition period.
EASTERN OVERVIEW
Poland is typically the largest milk producer in Eastern Europe. YTD through October milk production was +1.9 percent. October 2019 was +1.3 percent over October 2018.
