Butter/Butteroil – Europe at the beginning of November 2019

Report 45 – Released on November 07, 2019

Butter prices in Western Europe are higher, but still below prices one year ago. Prices tend to be higher in Germany than France, Netherlands, or Italy.

Demand is lively, both within the EU and for export markets. Even with many butter plants in Western Europe reported to be maintaining higher late year production than this time last year, butter prices remain strong. There is very good demand for current butter production. Competition for cream from other cream-based holiday products is increasing.

Sources believe that butter from cold storage is also reaching the market. However, there is some uncertainty as to how much butter is held privately, but is not contractually committed. Most contract deliveries are being made on time. Buyers are willing to accept deliveries on schedule.
